Business of Games: 2023 prediction

Wish you a great new year 2023 🎉

Here are some predictions that I forecast, we will revisit them in 2024 Jan and reflect.

1. Death of FB. IG and TikTok will take over the ad platform, and TikTok will face more scrutiny in the US. I wish that the TikTok ban in India will be lifted 🤐

2. Year of sideload

   1. IPA sideloads on iOS devices, and all these carriers will open an alternate Appstore. Netflix game store will take the center stage

   2. IAP sideload, games having their own stores for IAP

3. More brutal kills and failures in NFT

4. Metaverse won’t be a buzzword, utility-based experiences will take the centre stage like VRChat, and rec room... some more insights on metaverse here 🔗

5. Hypercasual game publishers will pivot to casual games. LiveOps will adapt and absorb hypercasual/trending games as part of mini-game events in successful games. Some of the games have already started this trend like Homescapes more insights here 🔗

6. 2023 will be the year for AI, with respect to funds and new experiences - it will take the centre stage like how smart speakers like Alexa and Home did it in 2019, games live ops did it in 2020/21, and NFT/web3 games on 21/22
